Master and Doctorate Grade 4

History and Proposal of the Programme

The creation of the Stricto Sensu Graduate Programme in Law and the implementation of the Master's Degree in Human Rights in 2012 and the Doctoral Degree in 2019 were the result of work carried out by the Department of Legal and Social Sciences, by the Master's Degree in Development (particularly the research line in Law, Citizenship, and Development), and the Research Group on Human Rights and Development. The Programme aims to promote and strengthen research and scientific production by developing researchers, faculty, and other qualified professionals to work in the field of law and related fields, using interdisciplinarity as its methodological framework and the recognition, institutionalisation, and protection of human rights as its fundamental theme. Furthermore, the Programme aims to intervene in reality through critical reflection and the search for alternatives that can contribute to greater awareness of the centrality of human rights for democratic societies and their greater effectiveness within States and at the international level.

Target Audience

The Master's programme's primary target audience is Law graduates and related fields.

The Doctoral programme's target audience includes holders of a Master's degree in Legal and Social Sciences or related fields, whose thesis project is aligned with the research lines listed above. It should be noted that the Master's degree must have been completed in programs duly accredited by CAPES.
